Kommentar: Zum Gewicht (ca. das Doppelte der (Normal-) Maiorina) s. Bastien (1983) 99 sowie die Tabelle im RIC VIII S. 63: Magnentius führte nach dem Verlust Italiens eine Reform des Bronzegeldes durch. - Magnus Magnentius war Militärkommandeur und Befehlshaber der Legionen der Ioviani und Herculani. Am 18.1.350 n. Chr. ließ er sich Autun zum Kaiser ausrufen und nahm den Kampf gegen Constans, den Kaiser im Westen des Reiches, auf, der bald darauf auf der Flucht zu Tode kam. Magnentius wurde nun in Westen, einschließlich Afrika, als Herrscher anerkannt. Im Sommer 350 n. Chr. ernannte er seinen Bruder (oder zumindest nahen Verwandten) Decentius zum Caesar und Mitregenten. Gegen Magnentius ging nun Constantius II., der Bruder des Constans I., vor, der Magnentius am 28.9.351 bei Mursa besiegen konnte. Italien ging im Aug./Sept. 352 n. Chr. für Magnentius verloren. Am 10.8.353 n. Chr. schließlich verübte Magnentius in Lyon Selbstmord.
