English: Maesglas Road bridge reconstruction(11)
The electrification of the South Wales Mainline requires that a number of bridges in and around Newport undergo modification as they are too low to accommodate the overhead wires. One of these is the Maesglas Road bridge. Since 2004, when the nearby Southern Distributor Road was constructed and one end of the bridge became a cul de sac, the bridge has had no through traffic. A temporary footbridge across the railway has been provided for the duration of the work. A view of the site one day before the sections of the bridge are lowered into position. Train services were suspended between Newport and Cardiff for two days for this work, and work on other bridges in the vicinity, to be completed. |
