| Description | Built in 1916 and later expanded in 1954, this Colonial Revival-style building was designed by Frank Riley, Lewis Siberz, and J.H. Gravens to house the Madison Club. The building was informally dedicated by former United States President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt. The building is clad in red brick with a rusticated base, stone trim, including a cornice at the top of the first floor, keystones, relief panels below the second story windows, headers above the second story windows, a decorative trim surround at the front entrance door, ionic brick pilasters at the corners, a cornice with dentils, a parapet with decorative panels and a stone cap, a side terrace with a stone balustrade, and replacement windows. The building is home to Madison’s oldest still-operating social club, and houses the Madison Club’s operations, as well as serving as an event venue. It is considered by architectural historians to be one of Frank Riley’s best non-residential works. |
