BHAVAI DANCE - Traditional Folk Dance of Rajasthan Culture

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The dance involves men/women balancing eight to nine brass pitchers or earthen pots on their head as they dance and twirl with their feet on the perimeter of a brass plate or on the top of a glass. Because of its high level of difficulty and complexity, it takes years for the performer to master the dance form.

The inspiration of this dance format seems to come from the rural life of Rajasthan. Being a state substantially covered with desert, there has never been an abundance of water resources here. Earlier, womenfolk of the villages were required to fetch water from common sources like wells.

They used to carry multiple clay pots simultaneously to save their time since the path in villages was used to be filled with thorns. It pretty much clears up how the whole chore would have inspired a dance format which has now received international recognition.
