Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Macrolepiota in the wayside There were a number of these large fungi along the disused road past Putlowes Cottages. They are probably rather over-the-hill Macrolepiota procera (Parasol mushroom), but having achieved such maturity many of their salient distinguishing features have degraded - certainly not ones to risk eating ! Most of the small Lepiotas are poisonous whereas their larger brothers the Macrolepiotas are nearly all edible. Care should be taken however not to confuse any of the Macrolepiotas with the deadly Amanitas such as Panther Cap (Amanita pantherina).
