Description
English: About Mustafa Pasha`s Mosque:

Mustafa Pasha`s mosque is one of the most beautiful buildings of Islamic religious architecture in Skopje. Located on a hillside opposite of Fort Kale, this mosque dominates the whole surrounding and can be seen from every part of the town center.

It was built in the last decade of the 15th century when Macedonia was part of the Ottoman Empire. It is an endowment of Mustafa Pasha, a high ranking official in the Ottoman state. Above the entrance door to the mosque there is an inscription in Arabic dating from about the time when the mosque was built.

By the right front corner of the main cube stands a minaret which gives a vertical accent to the whole building Its upper part is a projecting balcony from which the muezzin calls the faithful to prayer. The minaret is about 47 meters high and its spiral staircase has 138 steps.

On the outer east side of the mosque is Mustafa Pasha`s mausoleum. It is a closed type hexagonal mausoleum with a dome identically to that of the mosque. On the outer south part of the mosque there is a sarcophagus, which is suppose to be the grave of Umi, one of Mustafa Pasha`s daughters.
