Title
MOUNT
Description
English:

Copper alloy circular mount is decorated with an openwork heraldic device depicting a two headed eagle.  The bird is depicted as displaying, this has a large standing oval body with wings outstretched to either side. above the animal is shown with two heads mounted on narrow neck which face in opposite directions. Long curvilinear striations on the body and wings form the detail for the feathers, whilst detailing for the heads and legs appears to be absent.  Surrounding the bird is a with circular border. The rear of the mount is undecorated and appears to have a slight concave form.

No mounting method is visible on the artefact.  The top edge does look deformed and possibly truncated, leading to the possibility that there maybe a missing suspension loop.  A second and perhaps more plausible option is suggested by the presence of a semi-circular notch at 11 o’clock on the outside of the rim, this may intimate that this item was riveted or sown on to an item of furniture, strap or clothing.
