English: BAGHDAD – Maj. Gen. James D. Thurman, the commanding general of Multi-National Division – Baghdad, met with local residents in the Ghazaliya neighborhood of western Baghdad Wednesday and talked with them about security in the region and listened to their observations on quality of life. While visiting a bustling market place, the residents said security had improved. A concern they raised was only averaging five hours of electricity a day. Soldiers from MND-B's 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division have been in the Ghazaliya area since Aug. 22 in support of Operation Together Forward. Since their arrival, security barriers have been emplaced and bulk debris (car hulks) has been removed in addition to repairs being made to damaged local schools, a clinic to provide medical aid and the continuation of cleaning up trash in the area. During the next three to six months, contracts are scheduled to be awarded for a primary health clinic, repairs are slated for a collapsed sewage line and the rehabilitation of a sewer pump station, and improvements are planned to the electrical grid in order to increase electricity.
