Summary
[edit]DescriptionMNBPHenryHouse.jpg | The Henry House, with the Henry Hill Monument in front, in Manassas National Battlefield Park. The original Henry House was used by snipers and was in the line of fire for much of the First Battle of Bull Run, one of the early battles of the American Civil War. The homeowner Judith Carter Henry, about 85 years old, refused to leave the house and was killed during the battle. She was first civilian to be killed by Civil War combat. The house itself was badly damaged, and completely torn down following the battle by souvenir hunters. The current house was built after the war. The monument was dedicated in 1865 by Union soldiers, in memory of all who died at the battle. |
