Description

A U.S. Navy ordnance officer inspects a Mark 46 torpedo on an Aero 21A weapons skid being loaded aboard a Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King helicopter (BuNo 149894) from Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron HS-15 Red Lions parked on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS America (CV-66) on 1 September 1977. HS-15 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 6 (CVW-6) for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 29 September 1977 to 25 April 1978.

The SH-3H 149894 was later featured in the movie "Top Gun" as the helicopter that lands with the two men shot down by the "hero". It was finally retired to the AMARC as 9H0059 on 17 December 1993.
