Description

Boarding the Gozo ferry gives one a sense of leaving one world which is continuously on the move and travelling to the quaint island of Calypso. Calypso or Circe was a mythical goddess of Ancient Greece who according to mythology kept Ulysses and his crew here as prisoners. All of Ulysses’ men were transformed into pigs with the exception of Ulysses himself as Calypso had a crush on him. He stayed here for quite some time but his yearning for his wife forced him to leave and go back to Ithaca, his home country where his wife Penelope and son Telemachus were earnestly waiting for him. As soon as one nears the Gozitan Harbour of Mgarr one immediately realizes the difference. Gozo is quieter, cleaner and greener. Due to these characteristics it has now become a hub for foreign tourists who go there not for sightseeing only but to enjoy the limpid blue sea which surrounds this island. Gozo has enhanced its touristic attraction especially when it comes to diving and snorkeling.

Gozo is enjoying a boost in tourism, up to some time ago it was the summer Mecca for Maltese families to go and spend some days in this quiet and enchanting island. The air of welcome and difference is felt as you are going into the harbour with its yachts and traditional fishing boats lolling on the ripples made by the ferry which is ready to disgorge its hundreds of travelers on to Gozo. In the background one can see the low lying islands of Comino and Cominetto - Gozo, MALTA.
