Carnival 2001, New Orleans: Crowd along St. Charles Avenue. This is one of the major parade routes. Before and between the parades many people camp out on the "neutral ground" (grassy median) and make a pic-nic party out of the event. Note smoke from potable cooking grills; ladders are used to elevate children for a better view when the parades pass. Original description:
