Ter gelegenheid van geboorte of huwelijk schenken mensen elkaar in de zeventiende eeuw zilveren lepels, al dan niet versierd met religieuze voorstellingen. De lepels werden slechts een enkele maal gebruikt, bijvoorbeeld voor het scheppen van brandewijn om te toosten op het pas gehuwde paar of de jonggeborene. Deze lepels zijn versierd met een voorstelling van de apostel Simon. De apostel stierf een marteldood: hij werd doormidden gezaagd.
