Miss Alice Longfellow,
Dear Miss Longfellow, -
It is a very pleasant report that I have to give you of Mattie Walden. She is now in the lowest class, where she is doing quite good work. Every one speaks of her as a “nice girl". She was greatly pleased with the pretty apron you sent her at Christmas time. I ought here to say that her letter of acknowledgment should have reached you more promptly. Mattie brought it to me to address, but I accidentally overlooked it till it had been in my possession for several days.
