Français : Texte inscrit sur la carte : "La Tour du Roi" qui terminait la courtine de la "Porte Noire" et sur laquelle, après le déclassement de la place, fut aménagé un réservoir d'eau pour les besoins de la population, défendait Mézières du Sud-Ouest et formait un des angles de l'enceinte rectangulaire de la ville ( centre). elle comprend deux vastes étages de casemates dans lesquelles sont venus hâtivement s'entasser les habitants de la cité pendant les bombardements du 31 décembre 1870".
Les fortifications de Mézières sont cédées à la ville et démantelées de 1884 à 1890, suite à leur déclassement. Les portes sont détruites, ainsi que les ouvrages avancés. Les tours sont en partie conservées, ainsi que le tracé général des remparts. réf : http://www.sites-vauban.org/Mezieres. Le château d'eau qui coiffe "La Tour du Roi" a été construit fin XIXe siècle. La tour, qu'en à elle, le fut entre 1522 et 1528 lors du règne de François 1er Le vétéran à qui est adressé la carte postale doit être sans trop de doute un combattant de la guerre de 1870. |
