Description
Français : La météorite de Caille est la plus grosse météorite française, pesant 626 kg. Elle est en fer et a été trouvée au XVIIe siècle par un berger. Elle a d'abord été utilisée comme enclume, puis comme banc d'église, avant d'être identifiée comme météorite par l'ingénieur Cyprien-Prosper Brard et rejoindre les collections du Muséum d'Histoire naturelle à Paris en 1828, contre une horloge. La photographie a été prise à l'occasion de l'exposition "Météorites, entre ciel et terre" au Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, au Jardin des Plantes à Paris, exposition qui s'est tenue entre le 18 octobre 2017 et le 10 juin 2018.
English: "Caille meteorite" is the biggest meteorite that ever fell in France. It's a 626-kilogram iron meteorite found by a shepherd in the 17th century. Caille meteorite was used as a an anvil, then a church bench, before it was sent in 1828 to the Muséum d'Histoire naturelle in Paris. The village received a clock in exchange. The picture was taken during the exhibition "Meteorites, between Earth and Sky" in the National Museum of Natural History in the Jardin des Plantes of Paris. The exhibition was held between October 18th 2017 and June 10th 2018.
