Français : Fragment de la météorite de Gibeon (Namibie) en sidérite. Muséum d'histoire naturelle Henri-Lecoq, Clermont-Ferrand.
Numéro d'inventaire : MHLCLFE 2009.3.5. Achetée par le musée en 2008. Informations indiquées sur la légende au musée Lecoq : "Dimensions : 11 x 8 x 0,3 cm. Poids : 242 g. Composition : alliages fer-nickel (série continue Kamacite / Tanéite) avec traces de cobalt et de phosphore. Météorite découverte en 1836 en Namibie. C'est l'une des plus grosses météorites ferreuses découvertes sur Terre. Elle provient d'un astéroïde dont le noyau de fer et de nickel s'est différencié d'un manteau silicaté à l'instar de la structure terrestre. Les figures géométriques visibles sur sa tranche, ou figures de Widmanstätten, sont dues à l'entrecroisement et à l'alternance de couches de Kamacite et Tanéite lors de la différenciation et de la cristallisation du noyau de l'astéroïde." |
