Description
Français : Ce totem a été créé par l’artiste Charles Joseph de la nation kwakiutl de la Colombie-Britannique. Sa stature de plus de 21 mètres impose devant le pavillon Michal et Renata Hornstein du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM). Le dévoilement eut lieu le 3 mai 2017, dans le cadre du 375e anniversaire de Montréal. Nommé Mât totémique des pensionnats, l'œuvre fait partie d'un parcours de l’exposition La Balade de la Paix – un musée à ciel ouvert. Il rappelle les enfants autochtones qui ont été retirés de leurs familles et placés dans des pensionnats durant la période de 1820 jusqu’en 1996, une situation que l'auteur a lui-même vécue.
