Exposição Liaisons da coleção de Francisco Simões (1946-) organizada no quadro do Forum Económico Internacional do Instituto do Mundo Lusófono na Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira, com curadoria de Márcia de Sousa, 23 de junho de 2023. Francisco Simões Santos (Porto Brandão, Almada, 1946-) concluiu, em 1965, o curso da Escola de Artes Decorativas António Arroio, em Lisboa e, entre 1967 e 1968, esteve em Itália e em França, como bolseiro. Radicado na Madeira, em 1973, veio a ocupar o lugar de professor da Escola Secundária da Ribeira Brava e na comissão diretiva do Museu da Quinta das Cruzes. Concluiu o curso de Escultura, em 1974, na então Academia de Música e Belas Artes da Madeira, mas teve de abandonar a Madeira um ano e pouco depois, na sequência da conturbada situação regional após o 27 de Abril de 1974. Veio então a desenvolver uma interessante carreira como artista plástico e ilustrador, tendo começado por assinar alguns trabalhos de pintura como Francisco de Almada e reservando o apelido de Simões para a escultura. Como escultor “O autor considera-se um descendente dos escultores da escola de Mafra e das suas técnicas manuais de dar vida à pedra. Na época da mecanização recusa o facilitismo destes processos, preferindo o moldar cuidado de cada centímetro de pedra por processos manuais. O resultado final é esplendoroso, os brilhos dos mármores são potenciados libertando a sua beleza escondida” (Texto do Metropolitano de Lisboa). |
