Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Lyne cist cemetery. Between the 6th and 8th centuries, the southeast of Scotland was under the control of the Anglican kingdom of Northumbria, a period of increasing influence of Christianity. The dead were often buried in slab-lined graves or long cists. Three small graves here on the mound at Abbey Knowe 1006615 are typical long cists, but because of the size it is believed they were for children. The graves were discovered and excavated in 1998 but no remains were found due to the acid soil. Their position is marked by the covering stones in the foreground. (Source: information panel on site)
