Summary
[edit]DescriptionLyke Wake Walk Signpost, Near Sheepwash - geograph.org.uk - 116917.jpg |
English: Lyke Wake Walk Signpost, Near Sheepwash. Many of the 160,000 walkers that have completed the Lyke Wake since its inception in 1955 may have had second thoughts on being reminded by this sign of the 35 arduous miles to go to the finish at Ravenscar on the coast. But the sign in this forlorn state is now a reminder that the number of walkers has declined to a mere trickle, about 300 per year. A change in fashion perhaps with mountain biking more appealing. The sign was erected by Lord Ingleby as part of the route marking across Scugdale which was notoriously difficult in the early days of the LWW. |
