Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This antique Filipino sword is believed to have originated from Luzon, during the Katipunan era at the time of the Philippine Revolution.

The entire blade can be seen here.

The blade is thick and heavy, as is characteristic of blades of this era. The wooden hilt has a unique rifle stock-style pommel. The ferrule is circular and is made of iron. The scabbard is tooled leather with ornate design patterns. The scabbard has shrunk with age and this explains why the tip is broken.

It is possible that this sword has Visayan influences -- the tang is not peened, and there are engraved parallel lines on the ricasso.

Overall length: 562 mm (22.1 inches); Blade length: 383 mm (15.1 inches); Blade thickness: 9 mm (3/8 inch); Scabbard length (tip broken): 375 mm (14.7 inches)
