Entitled "A Wonderful Ceiling," photographic reproduction depicts the Ballroom of stalactites found within the Luray Caverns in Luray, Virginia. Accompanying text describes how stalactites are formed by chalk-filled water charged with carbon dioxide continually dripping from the roof of the cavern. This plate is found within The Romance of Modern Chemistry, which is a layman's introduction to topics in chemistry.
