Summary
[edit]DescriptionLunchtime in the city - geograph.org.uk - 498336.jpg |
English: Lunchtime in the city Office workers and others taking a break in this square next to St Peter Mancroft church.
The sculpture by Anne and Patrick Poitier which provides some of the seating was installed in July 2007 as a tribute to Thomas Browne (1605-1682), the physician, philosopher, botanist and writer whose statue looks down on the square. He lived nearby and is buried in St Peter Mancroft Church. The installation includes a large carved eye and brain made from granite and Italian marble as well as five black seats and large stones. It is intended to improve Hay Hill as a public place, providing people with a place to sit and reflect. Information on Thomas Browne: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Browne |
