North pole of the moon

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Figure on page 14 of The Moon As Viewed by Lunar Orbiter, NASA Special Publication 200 (SP-200), 1970. Approximately reproduced from reprocessed image from Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project (LOIRP). Caption in the publication reads:
A closeup of the north polar area. The pole (D2, marked with an N) is in the shadow just outside the crater Peary (G2). The crater Hermite (C8), located about 86° N, 60° W, is 109 kilometers across. The very low solar elevation brings out the apparent squareness of the shallow depressions at E13, G12, and J14.
The actual north pole is now known to be slightly down and to the right of where the "N" is shown in this figure. The prominent crater in lower left is Sylvester.
