Description

A waxing gibbous moon as observed from New Zealand (Southern Hemisphere) on November 17, 2010. Photograph taken 94 minutes after sunset.

On the lunar terminator, the Gassendi crater is visible with its central peak and a crater rim that rises 2.5km above the surface of the moon. The Gassendi crater was a possible landing site candidate for the cancelled Apollo 18 moon mission.

The craters Tycho, Copernicus, and Plato can also be seen in this photograph.
