Summary
[edit]DescriptionLugworm Casts - geograph.org.uk - 1460195.jpg |
English: Lugworm Casts. The sand at this end of the beach is always dotted with lug casts. The worms can grow to 25 cm (almost a foot) long, and live in deep U-shaped burrows in wet sand near the low tide mark. They ingest sand at one end, extract from it anything they can digest, and pass the inedible material out at the other end in these worm-like casts. Lugworms are excellent bait for catching flatfish, and you often see fishermen here, digging up the lug to bait their hooks. |
