Summary
[edit]DescriptionLugden Barrow, Bisterne Common - geograph.org.uk - 502560.jpg |
English: Lugden Barrow, Bisterne Common Somewhere amongst this gorse and heather is the barely discernible mound of Lugden Barrow, a bronze-age burial mound which has more recently been used as a boundary marker at the eastern corner of Bisterne Common. On the far side of the fence is the Crown lands of the New Forest, in particular the Dur Hill Inclosure which was established in 1962. The creation of Dur Hill Inclosure cut off Bisterne Common (an adjacent common) from the open Crown lands. Although the inclosure has since been "thrown open" (by removing the fences), Bisterne Common is now completely enclosed by fences and gates. |
