English: Ludwig Friedel, born as Karl Siegfried Ludwig (1917–2007), called „Friedel“ was the sole son of the Austrian poet and painter Paula Ludwig and her lover Walter Rose (1881–1962) of Neurode in Lower Silesia, Prussia. As a student of reform boarding-school Schule am Meer on the island of Juist in the North Sea he developed many of those pictures his school-mates and teachers created during 1927 and 1934. He got his very first Leica camera by his school-mate Günther Leitz (1914–1969) who also offered him a professional training in his father's factory Ernst Leitz of Wetzlar, Hesse. This portrait picture on which Ludwig Friedel holds a Leica M3 or M2 was created on the firm's compound in Wetzlar. |
