| Description |
English: Ludford Bridge crosses the River Teme In October 1459, this was the site of a battle between Lancastrians and Yorkists. Unfortunately for the Yorkist supporters of Ludlow, the Lancastrians won and the town was subsequently plundered by the victors.
The Teme rises in the Kerry Hills, south of Newtown in Powys and empties into the Severn south of Worcester. The whole river was designated a SSSI in 1996. For those interested in birdwatching, this is a good place to spot Dippers bobbing up and down on the rocks and occasionally diving into the shallow, fast-flowing river to feed. http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/d/dipper/index.aspx |
