Hampton, Va., December 29, 1896.
Dear Friend,-
It gives me much pleasure to write to you to thank you for my Christmas present that you sent me, and I was very glad to receive such a nice Christmas present from you.
I have been home to spent [sic] the Christmas with my Mother and Father which was a very pleasant Christmas, It is the first time have been home since I have been to Hampton Normal School.
[p. 2] I only spent three day [sic] home with my people, I went home on Thursday morning December 24, 1896, and returned back to Hampton Normal School on December 28, 1896. I enjoyed being home with my people very much.
But it was very cold on Thursday morning when I went home, and I left Hampton Normal School Thursday morning seven O'clock, and when I got home it was four O’clock in the after noon.
They all very glad to see me, I went to church on Christmas Day, and spent a very happy Christmas Day.
[p. 3] I left home on Monday morning December 28, 1896, half past six in the morning for Hampton Normal School, and reached the school half past five Monday after noon.
I was very sorry to come away from on Monday morning because it always give me a sad feeling.
Christmas Day was such a beautiful day, and it was a pleasant day, and my Christmas present was such a nice present, and I like it so much.
