Description
English: Lt. Col. Samuel Oppelaar, left, 21st Space Operations Squadron commander, takes a photo with 21st SOPS, Detachment 1 team members during his visit to the detachment, Sept. 17, 2019. Diego Garcia nicknamed "Footprint of Freedom" is located approximately seven degrees south of the equator. Although Diego Garcia has no indigenous population, it is home to approximately 3,000 permanent-party inhabitants, the majority of whom are U.S. military personnel and base contractors.
