Title |
Lower Palaeolithic handaxe |
||
Description |
English: A complete flint Acheulian handaxe of white-brown patina largely stained orange, dating to the Lower Palaeolithic. The axe's form is fairly crude. In plan it is sub-lozengiform, tapering quite roughly at one end to a crude tip. The axe has generally fairly straight, slightly battered edges. It is covered by removals which have been somewhat smoothed by water action. A notable feature is a very high central area left on one of the faces, presumably to aid handling. There are some slight cracks and flaws in the flint. |
