InAsia the boundaries of the Roman Empire may be de-fined in general terms to be nearly the same as the limitsof Asiatic Turkey, which comprehend Asia Minor, Ar-menia, Mesopotamia, Assyria, and Syria. In Africathe Roman Empire comprised Egypt and all the north-ern coast corresponding with Barca, Tripoli, Tunis, Al-geria, and Fez. The shaded part of the accompanyingmap shows very nearly the extent of the Roman Empire.*
