Summary

Description
English: Lothian Buses bus 281 (reg. P281 PSX), a 1997 Volvo Olympian double-decker with Alexander Royale bodywork, wearing the traditional Madder and White livery, with a full side advert for Scottish Widows. It is pictured in June 2009 in a scene recreating route 26 at Seton Sands in East Lothian on a farewell tour for the type and livery, organised by Edinburgh Transport Group. Being the last step-entrance vehicles in the Lothian fleet, these buses were the last to wear this traditional livery. It had begun to be phased out all they way back in 1999 with the introduction of a mainly white 'Harlequin' livery worn by the new batches of low floor buses being delivered. As a flagship route, the 26 was one of the first to see the new livery and buses, complete with new 'Heart' Playing Card branding (and latterly 26 'Connect'), and over time these step entrance buses were gradually relegated to lesser routes. After withdrawal, this bus was sold to West Coast Motors soon after. Sister bus 285 (P285 PSX), the very last delivered in the livery, was retained and preserved by Lothian as a heritage vehicle. No sooner had the livery dissappeared from the service fleet however, in 2010 with the fleet now 100% low-floor, a new version of the traditional livery was adopted as the standard, with the route branding colours & themes also altered.
