Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Lothian Buses bus 23 (reg. OAS 624), a Leyland Tiger (front-engined) PS1 single-decker, wearing the Mac Tours livery. Pictured next to Dunsapie Loch in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh.

The bus was delivered new in May 1951 to Jersey Motor Transport, Jersey, with 34 seat single decker bus bodywork by Reading & Co Ltd Coachbuilders of Portsmouth, as their bus 49, with a registration of J 5660.

It was aquired by Guernseybus, Guernsey in 1989 to be used on tourist routes, and given fleetnumber 17. With it's original bodywork in poor condition, it was rebuilt by the Guernseybus coachuilder Vernon Priaulx, who gave it a new 31-seat coach body (numbered 500330) incorporating a special feature of a transparent sliding roof. While in Guernesy it carried the registration number 9439, followed by 28231.

In April 2002, it passed to the Mac Tours subsidiary of Lothian Buses following the closure of Guernseybus, who then re-registered it as OAS 624.

In February 2009 it passed into the private hire fleet of Ensignbus, who re-registered it as 839 XUJ, and gave it Ensign fleetnames, but retaining the Mac Tours colours.

It is one of a pair of JMT buses which followed this path between Jersey, Guernsey, Mac Tours, and Ensign, but that one was rebuilt as an open top bus, carrying the registrations and fllet numbers of J 5567 (JMT 44), 2493/12523 (Guernseybus 16), YSL 334 (Lothian Mac Tours 22) and 840 XUJ (Ensignbus 22).
