| Description | Lot 9608-2: Royal Navy aircraft carrier, HMS Furious. Caption reads, “Originally designed as a battle cruiser to carry two 18” and secondary armament of 5.5” guns, this ship was altered during completion in 1916. The forward 18” gun being removed and a hangar and flying off deck substituted. Later on, the after gun was taken out of her and an alighting deck fitted. She displaced over 18,000 tons and could steam at 32 knots.” Donation of C.H. Abbot, 1919. (7/24/2015). |
