Summary
[edit]DescriptionLot-9432-20 (23555368660).jpg | Lot-9432-20: Battle of Bataan, 7 January – 9 April 1942. One of Bataan’s Heroic Defenders Was An Entire Army By Himself. Only by fighting with the fierceness of force ten times their strength did the Filipino-American Army of Bataan hold out so long. One of the soldiers – U.S. Captain Arthur W. Wermuth – even earned the reputation of being by himself a “One-Man Army.” Wermuth is shown here, carrying a Tommy-gun, with a fellow Filipino soldier. By the middle of last February, he had killed 116 Japanese and captured many more. Office of War Information Photograph, 9-15 April 1942. Original photograph is small. (2015/12/18). |
