![]() This media file has been nominated for deletion since 16 June 2024. To discuss it, please visit the nomination page.
Do not remove this tag until the deletion nomination is closed. Reason for the nomination: These paintings are the work of German artist de:Claus Bergen (1885–1964). They were taken from Flickr, where the National Museum of the U.S. Navy had uploaded them, and given a {{PD-USGov-Military-Navy}} tag. That this Navy museum uploaded them to Flickr does not mean that they are US works however, and it does not mean that the painter worked for the US military. There is a source named, a book with the title The Imperial Navy in the World War, 1914-17, but that is not the actual title. As [1] shows, the painting was taken from a German book the Library of Congress owns, titled Die Kaiserliche Marine im Weltkriege 1914-17 and published in Berlin in 1918. So these are German works, and while they may be in the public domain in the US, they are still protected in Germany until the end of 2034, and the files should be deleted. They can be restored in 2035.
