Object history |
During the renovation of 1723, the upper part of the entablature and the roof were renewed. In the process, the roof was simplified and widened. The original wall paintings, which had been extensively restored in 1722 and 1784 by the painter Gottfried Locher, were replaced between 1888 and 1890 in the course of a general overhaul under the direction of the painter Romain de Schaller by the six compositions that can be seen there today. The statues and reliefs on the outside were restored in 1723 and 1724 by Father Paul Eltschinger, in 1784 by the sculptor Rodolphe Muller and in 1838 by Nicolas Kessler. Then they were replaced by copies: in 1889 the three southern statues by C. Weber, in 1912 two more statues, probably by Ampellio Regazzoni and from 1914 to 1949 the remaining pieces by Théo Aeby. It should be added that the architecture itself underwent some repairs in 1916. |
