English: Lord President of the Court of Session's Mace A court official kindly demonstrates the mace during an 'Open Doors Day'.
This mace is also known as the 'Old Exchequer Mace'. It was made in London in 1667 and made of silver coated with 24 carat gold weighing 17 pounds. It carries the monogram C.R.for the then monarch Charles II. The mace in use in the House of Commons is similar. On the table can be seen other maces used in the courts including an even older one presented by Mary Queen of Scots. |
