The rough voyage from Canada returning to England alludes to the rough treatment given to Durham for his disastrous handling of Canadian affairs in Parliament. Edward Ellice, the younger (1810–1880); John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, the Governor-General of the British provinces in North America, Thomas Edward Michell Turton, 2nd Baronet (1790–1854) Legal Advisor to Lord Durham, British North America 1838.
