Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Lord Anson's Wood. Behind Strawberry Hall which is located on its edge. Strawberry Hall > 1027083 is believed to once have been a gamekeeper's house. Lord Anson's Wood is a coppiced broad-leaved semi-natural woodland located south of North Walsham. It is reached by a public footpath leading across fields in southwesterly direction; it veers off a farm track > 1027038 which turns off the B1150 (North Walsham Road) by the old stump cross, leading to Lord Anson's Wood (seen in the background). The path traverses the site of the battle fought in 1381 between the forces of Bishop Spencer and the rebels under John Leicester, a dyer from Norwich > 1027068. This battle is commemorated by the stump cross, relocated a short distance further to the east and now standing beside the B1150 > 458419.
