Description

Looking north at the excavation for the new Globe and Mail building, 2014 10 08 (20)
I regularly visit the construction site on Berkeley, between King and Front, where the Globe and Mail is building a new highrise HQ -- right next to the HQ of their downscale rival the Toronto Sun.

Today I saw a new construction vehicle, a stone slinger. Stones about 2 - 3 cm in diameter were emptied onto a conveyor belt, that was poked over the sidewalk and flung them to the bottom of the excavation about 20 metres below. The entire hopper was emptied in about 5 minutes. It wasn't really that noisy.
