Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Looking across Loch Lomond to Loch Long Loch Lomond is a fresh water loch whilst Loch Long is salt and part of the open sea. The photo shows the narrow neck of land separating them. Hauling their longships over here and elsewhere enabled the Vikings to sail on the lochs and raid far inland. Indeed, before Flanders Moss was drained it was believed that Stirling was threatened by Vikings 'sailing' and dragging their boats over from the west. Photo taken from slopes of Beinn a' Choin.
