Title
English: Looking Southeast from Officers Circle to the area affected by the landslides after saplings had been cleared off the slopes in January 2023
Description
English:

Bottom to top of image. Bright green grassy area, a gray gravel road with a black sign and the right and a tall stone arch on the right. Above the road is a tall chain-link fence and then a steep slope. On top of the slope are tress and a mound with a small brick pavilion.

In preparation for a canine survey to identify potential locations of displaced human remains in the affected portion of Section J of the national cemetery the area was cleared of vegetation in January 2023. Two magnolia trees were also removed near the Washington Street entrance. Section J of the Vicksburg National Cemetery damaged by the 2020 & 2021 landslides was originally designated to be for African Americans only.
