Summary
[edit]DescriptionLooking South from the UArizona Bok 2 3-meter Telescope (zodiacal-arc-UArizona-Bok-4m-Telescope-CC-c3).jpg |
English: The UArizona Bok 2.3-meter Telescope stands in the foreground of this spectacular view overlooking the south side of Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO). The sky above is awash with colorful lights from sources near and far. Stars from light-years away litter the sky with bluish and reddish pinpricks of light. Atoms in the Earth's atmosphere paint the horizon with a tinge of red and green, a phenomenon called airglow. Finally, the Sun's light reflects off of interplanetary dust in the Solar System to create the faint white band of zodiacal light (diagonal from top right to bottom left). |
