St. Mel's Cathedral, Longford, County Longford, Ireland English: Eleventh station of the Cross where Jesus is nailed to the cross, bas-relief sculpture carved by the Cork sculptor Ken Thompson from Bath stone panels, 55 × 46 inches and 3½ inches thick, with its background painted in blue, the halos gilded, and the classical Roman lettering set in terracotta. Inscription: “Him who takes away the sin of the world” in reference to John 1:29.
