Summary
[edit]DescriptionLongford Lock near Penkridge, Staffordshire - geograph.org.uk - 1575616.jpg |
English: Longford Lock near Penkridge, Staffordshire The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal from Stourport on Severn to Great Haywood had 43 locks on its 46 mile course. If you use the narrow locks now available as an easier option at Stourport, that becomes 45 in all.
Here Longford Lock drops (or raises) the water level by ten feet (three metres). Broom Bridge (No 87) is built over the northern end of the lock; the distant bridge seen is a new un-numbered bridge (87a?) carrying Woodbank Lane over the canal, then under the motorway. Formerly, there was a lane crossing about three hundred metres ahead, but that route to the east was blocked by the motorway. |
