Summary
[edit]DescriptionLong Eaton 3rd railway station (site), Derbyshire (geograph 7131039).jpg |
English: Long Eaton 3rd railway station (site), Derbyshire Opened in 1863 by the Midland Railway on what is today the line from Leicester to Trowell and Sheffield, this station replaced one about 500m further north (see SK4933 : Long Eaton 2nd railway station (site), Derbyshire). In turn, this station closed in 1967. Even though this is the most direct route between Leicester and Sheffield, nearly all trains today go via Derby or Nottingham as those routes pick up more business. View north towards Stapleford & Sandiacre, Trowell and Sheffield. The view has changed out of all recognition since SK4933 : Diesel-hauled empties passing Long Eaton Station was taken from a similar viewpoint some 60 years earlier. A year after closure of this station, the former "Sawley Junction station was renamed "Long Eaton", thereby becoming the fourth station to have been called by that name in the town. See SK4832 : Long Eaton railway station, Derbyshire. |
